The photography gallery Paris-Beijing Galerie has just opened a third branch in Brussels, in none other than the newly renovated Hotel Wissinger built by renowned Belgian art nouveau architect Victor Horta. The gallery is located in the buzzing multi-cultural commune of Saint-Gilles, slightly off the beaten track.
Their first exhibition is called ‘A History of Chinese Contemporary Photography’ and will be tracing the developments of photography in China over the last 30 years. It includes over 40 different artists, and is so far one of the biggest exhibitions on contemporary Chinese photography to be held outside of China. Having written my undergraduate dissertation on this exact topic, I’m disappointed to be missing it, but echoes back are really positive.
